Strengthening Fire Safety Expertise: KITCI Conducts Promat Passive Fire Protection Training

Kent International Trading Co. Inc. (KITCI) continues to strengthen its technical capabilities and commitment to building safety through a Promat Passive Fire Protection Training held on October 7, 2026. Led by Mr. Vicfred Rebollido, the session brought together KITCI’s Sales and Technical Teams to deepen their understanding of passive fire protection (PFP) systems and their applications in construction and industrial environments.
Advancing Knowledge in Passive Fire Protection
Passive fire protection plays a vital role in safeguarding buildings and infrastructure by helping contain fire and smoke, maintain the integrity of fire-resistant compartments, and support safe evacuation. Unlike active fire protection measures that rely on detection or suppression mechanisms, passive fire protection is incorporated into a building’s design and construction to help limit the spread of fire.
The training emphasized the importance of understanding fire protection systems as complete, tested assemblies rather than relying solely on the properties of individual materials. Proper system selection considers factors such as the building element, substrate, openings, penetrating services, and specific project requirements. These considerations are essential in ensuring that fire protection solutions perform as intended.

Understanding System Performance and Proper Application
The session also reinforced key technical considerations in passive fire protection, including fire stopping, structural fire protection, and the performance requirements of fire-resistant assemblies.
Effective fire stopping requires careful assessment of openings and joints, including gaps between walls and slabs and penetrations created by pipes, cables, and other building services. Selecting the appropriate system depends on the actual site conditions and the requirements of the tested application.
The training further highlighted the distinction between fire resistance and reaction to fire, as well as the importance of using compatible materials and following approved system specifications. Substituting components or modifying a tested system without the appropriate technical assessment may compromise its intended performance.
Through these discussions, KITCI’s Sales and Technical Teams gained a stronger appreciation of the technical factors that influence product selection, system installation, and the delivery of reliable fire protection solutions.

Strengthening Technical Coordination and Project Support
Beyond product knowledge, the training underscored the importance of early coordination during the design and specification stage. Engaging designers, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders early helps ensure that suitable passive fire protection systems are considered before construction and installation requirements are finalized.
Proper documentation, system submissions, site assessments, and compliance with applicable installation and inspection procedures are also essential in supporting quality assurance throughout project implementation.
By strengthening collaboration between its Sales and Technical Teams, KITCI aims to provide clients and industry partners with more informed recommendations, better technical coordination, and solutions suited to their project requirements.
Building a Safer Future Through Continuous Learning
KITCI recognizes that continuous professional development and collaboration with its principals are essential to maintaining technical competence and delivering dependable construction solutions. The Promat training reflects the company’s commitment to equipping its people with relevant industry knowledge and a deeper understanding of specialized fire protection systems.
Through its partnership with Promat and other industry leaders, KITCI continues to advance its expertise in passive fire protection and support safer, more resilient buildings and industrial facilities.
At KITCI, we believe that building safer environments begins with knowledge, technical excellence, and a commitment to doing things right.
